Founders
Auntie Karen Inc. is a startup company whose purpose is to empower, enlighten and educate utilizing the arts. In the summer of 2000, Karen Alexander was looking through some old notebooks and discovered a song she wrote some ten years earlier for her first grade students. She shared this discovery with Byron Counts and the Auntie Karen project was born. The company was incorporated in the State of SC on September 27, 2001.
The founding members include:

& Musical Director . In the Summer of 2002, they were joined by Dr. Norma Jackson
VP
of International Marketing.
Each member brings a wealth of experience in business, education and
entertainment.
Karen Alexander, Founder & CEO
Karen Alexander recently left an eleven year Corporate position with Xerox Corporation to pursue her passion to educate utilizing music. Prior to working for Xerox, she spent six years as a first grade teacher at James B. Edwards Elementary School.
Entertainment and the arts has always been a part of her life! As a child, she sang often in the church with her family in her hometown of Charleston, South Carolina. Karen is a graduate of the University of South Carolina where she was an active member of the school’s pop singing group, Carolina Alive. As her performances shifted into the professional arena, she has toured the United States, Europe and South America. Her audiences have greeted her enthusiastically in places as diverse as Greece, Romania, Brazil and Jamaica. In August of 1995, Karen organized the Contemporary Jazz and R&B Band Straight Ahead.
Bryon Counts VP & Musical Director
Byron Counts is a
songwriter, singer, producer and engineer. He produced Straight Ahead's
debut CD, "Into the Light", which made the international charts in the
UK, reaching as high as # 13. In addition to Straight Ahead, Byron has worked with a number of
popular artist. His resume includes
songwriting credits for Ce Ce Peniston,
Angie Stone and production projects with Devante Swing, a member of the hit
group, Jodeci. Byron is a native
of Columbia, South Carolina and a graduate of South Carolina State University. Dr. Norma Jackson, VP International Marketing
Dr. Norma Jackson is currently the Director of International Programs at Benedict College in Columbia, SC. She brings over a decade of business experience, bilingual talent and a wealth of International contacts. In addition, Norma has been writing children's stories for over a decade. Norma is a native of Colombia, South America.
